Shopify Plus Pricing in the UK: What Does It Actually Cost in 2026?

A transparent breakdown of Shopify Plus pricing in the UK — monthly fees, transaction costs, agency costs, and what you get for your money.

Shopify Plus pricing is one of those topics where the official documentation tells you part of the story and the reality tells you the rest. We speak to brand founders and ecommerce directors every week who are trying to work out whether Shopify Plus makes financial sense for them, and the confusion is understandable. This article lays out every component of the cost clearly, so you can make a properly informed decision.

The Shopify Plus Monthly Fee

Shopify Plus has two pricing models, and which one applies to you depends on your revenue level.

The flat-rate model starts at $2,500/month (approximately £1,970/month at current exchange rates). This applies when your monthly revenue through Shopify is below $800,000 (approximately £630,000/month). For most brands entering Shopify Plus, this is the rate they'll be on at least initially.

The revenue-share model kicks in when your monthly Shopify revenue exceeds $800,000. At that point, the fee becomes 0.25% of your monthly revenue, capped at $40,000/month (approximately £31,500/month). In practice, the cap means that brands with very high revenues are paying a declining effective percentage as they scale.

Shopify offers both monthly and annual billing. Committing to an annual contract typically comes with a discount, and it's also a lever you can use in negotiation with your Shopify account manager (more on that later).

Transaction Fees on Shopify Plus

Transaction fees are the element of Shopify Plus pricing that brands most commonly overlook when modelling costs. Here's how it works:

  • Shopify Payments (Shopify's own payment gateway): 0% transaction fee. You pay only the payment processing fee, which is typically 1.5-1.7% + 25p for UK cards on Shopify Plus, depending on your negotiated rate
  • Third-party payment gateways (Stripe, Braintree, PayPal, etc.): 0.15% transaction fee on Shopify Plus, on top of your gateway's own processing fees
  • The 0.15% third-party fee is the Shopify Plus rate. On standard Shopify plans it's 0.5-2%, so Plus gives you a significant saving if you're processing volume through a third-party gateway

For most UK brands, Shopify Payments is the simplest and most cost-effective option. It supports multi-currency, has strong fraud protection, and integrates seamlessly with the rest of the platform. The main reason to use a third-party gateway is if you have an existing relationship with a specific provider, if you need specific payment methods that Shopify Payments doesn't support, or if you've negotiated very competitive rates elsewhere.

What's Included in Shopify Plus

The Shopify Plus monthly fee covers a substantial feature set that goes well beyond what you get on standard Shopify plans. It's worth knowing exactly what you're getting:

  • Unlimited staff accounts: standard Shopify caps staff accounts at 5-15 depending on plan; Plus removes the limit entirely
  • Up to 9 expansion stores: run multiple storefronts (international markets, separate brands, B2B wholesale) under a single Plus subscription
  • Shopify Flow: the no-code automation builder for operational workflows across your store
  • Launchpad: schedule product launches, flash sales, and price changes in advance
  • Checkout extensibility: customise your checkout experience using Shopify's UI extensions and checkout app blocks
  • Multipass: single sign-on capability for integrating external authentication systems
  • Native B2B channel: dedicated wholesale storefront with company accounts, net payment terms, and custom price lists
  • Shopify Plus Academy: dedicated merchant education and onboarding resources
  • Dedicated Shopify Plus Support: priority support with faster response times and a dedicated merchant success team
  • Access to the Shopify Plus Partner ecosystem: agencies and technology partners with verified Plus experience
Key insightThe 9 expansion stores alone can represent significant cost savings for brands operating across multiple markets. Running 3 international storefronts under one Plus subscription versus three separate Advanced plans saves over £1,500/month.

What's Not Included

The Shopify Plus fee does not cover everything, and being clear about this upfront avoids surprises later:

  • Theme: your storefront theme is not included. A premium Shopify theme costs £250-£450 as a one-off purchase. A fully custom theme built by an agency will cost £15,000-£80,000+ depending on complexity
  • Apps: Shopify's app store has thousands of paid apps. A typical Plus merchant spends £300-£1,500/month on apps for email marketing, reviews, loyalty, search, bundles, and other functionality
  • Custom development: any bespoke features, custom integrations, or ongoing development work is additional cost
  • Email marketing platform: Shopify Email is included but limited. Klaviyo, Omnisend, or similar tools are separate subscriptions
  • ERP, 3PL, and other integrations: connecting Shopify to your back-office systems will often require an integration platform or custom development

Agency Costs

Unless you have strong in-house Shopify development capability, you'll also need to budget for agency costs. These vary significantly depending on the scope of work:

  • Initial migration or build: £15,000-£150,000 depending on complexity, data volumes, and the level of custom design and development required
  • Ongoing development retainer: £2,000-£10,000/month for regular development support, depending on your pace of change and technical requirements
  • CRO and growth services: £1,500-£5,000/month for ongoing conversion optimisation, A/B testing, and performance work
  • Shopify Plus agency day rates: typically £600-£1,200/day for experienced UK Shopify Plus developers and strategists

The right agency relationship depends on your in-house capability. Some brands need a full-service partner covering strategy, design, and development. Others have strong in-house teams and just need specialist resource for specific projects. Be honest about what you can handle internally before committing to a retainer.

Shopify Plus vs Shopify Advanced

Shopify Advanced costs £344/month (billed monthly) or £259/month on an annual contract. Shopify Plus starts at approximately £1,970/month. The £1,600-1,700/month difference needs to justify itself through the Plus-specific features.

The Advanced plan gives you 15 staff accounts, advanced reporting, third-party calculated shipping rates, and lower transaction fees than the basic plans. It's a capable plan for brands up to around £3-5M in annual online revenue.

Plus becomes worth the premium when you need one or more of: multiple storefronts, Flow automations, Launchpad, checkout extensibility, B2B functionality, or Multipass. If none of those features are on your roadmap, Advanced may well be the right call for now, with an upgrade path to Plus when the business case becomes clear.

Is Shopify Plus Worth It?

The breakeven analysis is straightforward. The premium of Shopify Plus over Advanced is roughly £1,600-1,700/month. That's £20,000/year. At what revenue level does that cost become trivial?

For a brand with £5M in annual online revenue and a 30% gross margin, £20,000 represents 0.13% of revenue and 0.44% of gross profit. Put that way, the Shopify Plus fee is not a significant cost at that revenue level, provided you're using the platform's capabilities to drive growth. The real question isn't whether you can afford Shopify Plus. It's whether you're leaving more than £20,000/year on the table by not having access to the features it includes.

In our experience, the brands that get the most value from Plus are those that use Flow heavily for operational automation, run multiple storefronts, have active A/B testing programmes on checkout, or have a B2B channel that justifies the native wholesale functionality. If you're not planning to use any of those features, the upgrade may not pay for itself.

How to Get the Best Deal on Shopify Plus

Shopify Plus pricing is more negotiable than many brands realise, particularly at higher revenue levels or for multi-store setups. Here's how to approach it:

  • Commit to annual billing: Shopify typically offers a meaningful discount for annual contracts over monthly billing
  • Negotiate through a Plus Partner agency: agencies with strong Shopify Plus relationships can sometimes facilitate better commercial terms for their clients
  • Time your upgrade strategically: if you're close to a revenue threshold that would trigger the revenue-share model, understanding the maths helps you plan the right moment to upgrade
  • Ask about migration credits: Shopify sometimes offers credits or incentives for brands migrating from competing platforms, particularly Magento and Salesforce Commerce Cloud
  • Get competing quotes: if you're also evaluating other enterprise platforms, use that leverage in your conversations with the Shopify Plus sales team
The brands that negotiate the best Shopify Plus deals are the ones who understand their own numbers thoroughly, know exactly what features they need, and are prepared to have a direct commercial conversation about value.
