How a Fashion Brand Reached Page 1 for 50 Keywords

A UK womenswear brand had no organic visibility despite strong products. We built a content and technical SEO strategy that placed 50 keywords on page one within seven months.

A womenswear brand with a well-established wholesale presence was launching DTC for the first time. They had a beautiful Shopify store, an engaged Instagram following of 45,000, and essentially zero organic search presence. Starting from scratch in a competitive category — women's occasionwear — we needed a focused, deliberate strategy to build ranking authority without wasted effort.

Keyword Research and Prioritisation

We began with a keyword mapping exercise, identifying 380 relevant terms across head, body, and long-tail. Rather than targeting high-volume head terms immediately (where the brand had no chance of ranking short-term), we segmented keywords into three tiers by competition level and built a phased plan that started with Tier 3 quick-wins.

  • Tier 1 (high competition, 6–12 months): 'occasionwear', 'wedding guest dresses'
  • Tier 2 (medium, 3–6 months): 'midi dress for wedding guest UK', 'floral wrap dress'
  • Tier 3 (low competition, 0–3 months): long-tail occasion + style + colour combinations

Collection Page Architecture

Shopify's default collection URL structure creates SEO opportunities that many brands miss. We restructured the collection hierarchy to create a logical category tree: dresses → occasion dresses → wedding guest dresses → [style variations]. Each level was optimised for the corresponding keyword tier, creating a topical authority structure that benefited all levels.

On-Page Optimisation

Each collection page received a custom SEO title, meta description, H1, and introductory copy block. Product descriptions were rewritten to be genuinely descriptive rather than the generic manufacturer copy that had been imported wholesale. Structured data was added for all products including availability, price, and aggregate review rating.

Blog Content Strategy

We built a content calendar targeting 'what to wear to a [occasion]' informational queries — a high-intent category where competitors were weak. Each piece linked directly to the most relevant collection pages, passing authority and driving internal traffic. Six articles in this series generated a combined 4,200 monthly organic sessions within three months.

Key insightBy month 7, the brand had 50 keywords on page 1 of Google, including three top-3 positions for high-intent occasion dress terms.

Results After 7 Months

  • 50 keywords on page 1 (from 0 at project start)
  • Organic traffic: 0 → 11,400 monthly sessions
  • Organic revenue: £0 → £22,000/month
  • 3 keywords in top-3 positions for target head terms
